Hey Blenderman,
Do you mean the smooth shading checkbox in the Dyntopo panel? Then it could be that Dyntopo is the baddie. You can easily run into the limits of your hardware when you sculpt with Dyntopo enabled. But there is little that we can do here.
When you mean something else, could you pelase give us a step by step description of what happens?
