Me and my workmates here in the microstudio have started working on a “Mascot”. There is no immediate need. Yet, pro’s of this is to keep the audience awake and attentive meanwhile Blender takes their time to update the Blender 2.8 master code. Pro’s could help genreate a more personal “artistic” feel about the branding of Bforartists, and be used in all kinds of publicity and illustrative purposes. Also, we can have a walkthrough tutorial series built around an artistic topic 100% inside Bforartists.

GOAL

1. Create a Mascot for publicity purposes on Facebook (and maybe twitter/instagram)
2. Document and tutorialize the entire process for official Bforartists artistic tutorial series
3. Do it 100% in Bforartists

Plan

1. Create the tasks in the Files github
2. Work on initial proposals
3. Vote on the best one to further develop with my artists and plan a designsheet
4. Create a tutorial series plan and workflow progress – fill the tracker
5. Do it.

Initial proposals

We have started building animal characters with the following requirements: cute, blue, looks like the logo, instructive, fun

Inspiration comes from charactes like: Krita’s mascot

Initial character ideas:

1. A fox/cat thing, scruffy
2. A lying down snail
3. An owl
4. A cat
5. A desert cat
6. A house cat
7. A snail that has little arms and stands (bigger eyes)
8. A Scorpion (personal favorite)
9. A jellyfish
10. Triple ghost crew
11. A gem based humanoid 

Next steps

I don’t know how to make forum polls, but in the facebook page I can make polls, and we could get the public involved and interested. Let me know though, which ones we could vote on or if we need even more angles to attack the concept. Let’s do this!

A bird or Dodo! Totally didn’t cross our minds. We can iterate a couple more ideas I suppose. Yeah, my next favorite is the Desert Cat, we can iterate that one too. I like the form of the logo that looks like the tail of the cat, so we’ll work with that. 

And, the logo is fine! We just went toooo crazy with the sperm like ghosts, we were just testing extremes. Sorry!

We played around with the cat and humanoid, did the Dodo (very cute) and iterated the cat design, and did a couple others – just for fun. With our character design process with clients (specially ones not clear on parameters), we shoot in the dark with a machine gun till we strike a chord through process of elimination.

I’m currently brewing up how I can run the vote. I now know how to do it in the forums and in Facebook, so will do it there.
