Tool Shelf - Tab improvements

I was wondering if the Tab switching workflow in the Tool Sideshelf could be improved.

Currently there is only verticle text and maybe memory of tab order defining what the tab is. When the tabs collapse on a small view, the words dissappear, then you have no way of knowing which tab is which, or which to select. It is hard to read verticle text. It is hard to quickly gauge a muscle memory of tab order.

The only UI friendly feature I know of the tabs is that the mouse scroll workes over the tab bar to switch tabs, which is nice.

I know there may be some heavy code limitations, but what can be done? What options of the following could be applied?

1. Icons in the tabs
2. Changing colours on singular tabs
3. Assigning keyboard shortctus to switch to tab
4. Pie menus to switch to different tabs without mouseover+click
5. Changing colours on tab sidepanel entirely along with the tab
6. Mouseover tab to switch to tab (no click)

Are any of these things even possible?

Hi Draise,

I tried all the mentioned things already. Without luck. I was especially interested in adding icons here by myself. But this shoe was too big for me so far. Maybe i give it a second crack at one point. Maybe the Blender devs will fix it. They have the same dilemma, and i think they work at a solution here too.

I will postpone it, but keep this point in the tracker. Thanks for the suggestion.

I decided to close this issue Doesn't make sense to keep issues that we will never fix. And as told, we already tried the mentioned points. And it's nothing that we can fix at our end.

Before i forget, you can cycle with the scroll wheel through the tabs if that is of help.
