Magnetic Levitation

G.A._Rushing's picture

This image was an experiment in metalness workflows, and fun stuff such as magnetism. The base and top of the apparatus are nickel plated NdFeB magnets, and the support beam is made of brass. The sphere is steel, with a five micron layer of polished nickel plate which is of insufficient thickness to dampen the steel's ferromagnetic properties. The nickel plating adds lustre and prevents rust.

Beautiful

Thank you, JDABEL. It's good to see that I'm not the only one who likes magnets, and can recognize their potential as art objects.
