Used to use trueSpace on Windows many years ago, but now Mac only and on a laptop, and I’m struggling a bit with the interface here. I’ve figured out most of the navigation through trial and error (pan, orbit, zoom), but I’m still missing how to do a dolly move or to rotate the view relative to the viewer rather than the scene center.

The other thing I can’t figure out is how to undo view changes as I navigate the scene. As you can see from the attached screenshot, I rotated one of the ortho views and can find no way to undo the last view change/navigation activity (of course clicking the ortho view button I’d previous chosen does reset it).

Unfortunately, I’ve had a hard time finding things in the manuals.

BTW, nice to see this is a Drupal site (that’s my day job). ;)

        Hi seanr,

The manual is in big parts still based at the Blender manual. Unsearchable, full of gaps, close to useless unfortunately in more than one area. Now you know why i have started rewriting it ;)

The chapter that you search for, the header area, is nearly finished. But needs some fine tuning. It will arrive with the next Bforartists version.

Back to your navigation problem. Have a look at the header area at the bottom of the 3D view. The Navi menu contains all the functionality that you are looking for. Also, have a look at the Important Hotkeys tool :)

The other thing I can’t figure out is how to undo view changes as I navigate the scene. As you can see from the attached screenshot, I rotated one of the ortho views and can find no way to undo the last view change/navigation activity (of course clicking the ortho view button I’d previous chosen does reset it).

The navigation problem that you describe here is unfortunately not to solve. Camera is in Blender and Bforartists not part of the Undo system. When you navigate away, then that was it.

That definitely helps. Thanks. BTW, I’m missing the icons on that nvaigation menu. Any ideas there? Also regarding dolly, with a trackpad, there’s no middle mouse button, so how would that work?

I think you will have to use the Developer build to get the icons. Icons are for the release 0.9.6, coming soon. It’s pretty stable from my testing, so should be alright.

Yes, the missing icons will come in the next version. You could test the developer version here, but that’s unfortunately windows only.

There is a way to emulate a two button mouse. I guess that’s what you would need for your trackpad dolly. But this one has a big caveat. You would need to switch to right mouse selection. The Blender devs have never implemented it in a way that you could emulate it with left click select :/
